OUR HISTORY
The Baldwin Community Food Pantry (The Pantry) was established in the 1970s by concerned citizens under the leadership of the New Life in Christ Church of Baldwin.
Initially, The Pantry functioned on a case-by-case basis. A volunteer would take a client facing food insecurity shopping at a local grocery store.
Later, The Pantry began stocking food in various locations, including the back room of the Village Hall and Baldwin-Woodville High School.
The Village of Baldwin then purchased the old Church Organ Systems building in 2004 for the EMS Department. The Pantry was allowed to use the storage shed behind the building to store and distribute food. Volunteers would distribute the food from the shed directly to the client's car waiting in the parking lot.
As the need for The Pantry grew, vehicles overcrowded the warehouse's driveway, causing safety concerns. Due to these concerns and the COVID-19 pandemic, in 2020, the volunteers moved the distribution site to Gethsemane Lutheran Church. Then, in the summer of 2024, Kwik Trip generously donated their old building on the corner of Main Street and 10th Avenue to The Pantry. The new building, set to be fully operational in December of 2024, is now a storage and distribution facility that will meet the clients' and Pantry's needs.
